Speaking Even After Death

Text: Hebrew 11:1-5
Memory Verse: “By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice
than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God
testifying of his gifts: and through it he being dead still speaks” (Hebrews 11:4).

History is replete with famous men and women whose names continue to echo through time. Some are remembered for the good they did; their selfless acts, courage, or faith while others are remembered for the evil and suffering they caused. Judas Iscariot, for instance, is forever associated with the betrayal of Jesus Christ. His name has become a symbol of treachery. On the contrary, Hebrews 11:4 tells us that Abel “still speaks”, even though he is dead. Abel is remembered because of his faith and the acceptable offering he brought to God. His righteous deed lives on and continues to speak volumes.

Shakespeare once said, “The evil that men do lives after them,” and we can also say that the good that people do continue to live and speak, even long after they are gone. Your sacrifices for others, your acts of kindness, your generosity to neighbours, even the quiet, unnoticed things, have a voice that will echo beyond your lifetime.

Lydia, in Acts 9, was so generous and compassionate that, when she died, the entire community pleaded with God for her restoration. Her good deeds spoke for her. If you were suddenly called home today, what would people say about you? Would your life speak of compassion, godliness, and love for others? Do you have a good report in your workplace, church, and neighbourhood? Jesus died over 2,000 years ago, but He still speaks today. Are you living in a way that reflects His image to the world?

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to live my life to fulfill my purpose.
2. Father, help me impact those around me positively.
