Text: Mark 6:1-6
Memory Verse: “Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them” (Mark 6:5).
When Jesus returned to His hometown of Nazareth, He read from the scroll of Isaiah saying, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me…” and boldly declared that the scripture was fulfilled in their hearing (Luke 4:21). He revealed Himself as the Anointed One sent to heal the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to captives, and give sight to the blind. But instead of celebrating, the people responded with skepticism.
“Is this not the carpenter’s son?” they asked. “Are not his siblings here with us?” (Mark 6:3). Their familiarity with Jesus became a stumbling block. Rather than respond in faith, they were filled with anger and unbelief. As a result, Jesus could do no mighty works among them, except heal a few sick people. Are you affected by skepticism?
Unbelief is a spiritual barrier which quenches God’s move and limits His power in our lives. God responds to faith, not routine, not emotion, not even needs. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us, “Without faith it is impossible to please God.”
Jesus remains the Anointed One, still healing and delivering, but the question is, do you believe or will you, like the people of Nazareth, let doubt and pride rob you of divine blessings? Choose faith over familiarity and welcome Him with an open heart. For those who truly believe, all things are possible (Mark 9:23). Do not let unbelief silence God’s move, believe and receive!
Prayer Points:
1. Lord God, please help my unbelief.
2. Lord, from today Your word will make meaning in my heart.
