Text: 1 Kings 13:11-24
Memory Verse: “and went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. Then he said to him, ‘Are you the man of God who came from Judah?’ And he said, ‘I am’” (1 Kings 13:14).
Rest is defined as taking a break after hard work to regain energy, whether by sleeping or relaxing. From this, rest is necessary for renewal of strength, but it must be done at the right time. The saying “all work and no play makes Jack a dull man” implies that rest is beneficial for
our well-being, but it also comes with boundaries. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 says there is a time for everything, including rest. As a Christian, however, you must understand that you are in constant spiritual warfare. You are called to stay vigilant, as your adversary, the devil, lurks around, waiting for moments of weakness. You are in a spiritual race, which does not end until you complete your earthly journey. True rest will only come in heaven, as Hebrews 4:1-11 tells us.
The story of the young prophet illustrates the consequences of resting prematurely. He was deceived into disobeying God’s instruction, and his fate was tragic. King David fell into sin when he chose to rest at a time when kings were expected to be at war (2 Samuel 11:1-5). His sin led to severe consequences, proving that resting when we should be active can lead to calamity.
While rest is important, it must be done within God’s timing. Seek to be busy with the Lord’s work, stay vigilant, and do not take untimely rest as you await God’s appointed time of true rest.

Prayer Points:
1. Father, let me not be a victim of untimely rest.
2. I will not fall prey to the hands of waiting enemies.
