Text: Luke 24:1-7
Memory Verse: “Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, ‘Why do you seek the living among the dead?’” (Luke 24:5).
Scary reports about disaster zones such as after an earthquake tell of discoveries of a living person among scores of dead bodies. Stories by such survivors and how they felt knowing that the bodies around them were lifeless are horrific. Their desire at such moments is to be rescued and get out. The living is simply one that has life in him and is able to continue to exist.
After Jesus died and stopped living by human standards, He arose bodily and became alive again! If He had not resurrected, His body would have been in the grave, but He rose from the dead and there was no body to see. Therefore, the Angels said to the women who went to the grave, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?”
Lot and the old man who accommodated the Levite whose concubine was raped to death in Judges 19 paint pictures of living among the dead in their time. One wonders how they survived among such wicked and sexually perverse people. How are you surviving living as a Christian in a sinful world?
The life in a Christian, one who has given his life to Christ as his Lord and Saviour is the Holy Spirit. This Spirit differentiates you from others who have not accepted Jesus and are not living for Him. In a sense, you are a ‘living among the dead.’ How are you living among people who do not believe or accept the standards of your God? Are you reflecting Jesus’ light?

2. May I truly live for You, Lord.
