Text: Numbers 21:4-9
Memory Verse: “Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live'” (Numbers 21:8).
God has loved humanity right from creation when Adam and Eve resided in the garden of Eden. Even after Adam and Eve were deceived by Satan, the serpent, and were sent out of the Garden of Eden, that love continued. God’s desire since the fall of man has always been that man should return to His initial plan. Man has, however, continually
fallen short of God’s expectation by continuously sinning, murmuring and complaining.
For this reason, God got angry with the Israelites, after they continued their journey from Mount Hor in the wilderness, and sent fiery serpents to bite them. Many of them died as a result, but being a loving God, He also provided a solution. He instructed Moses to make a bronze serpent and put it on a pole that whoever was bitten and looked upon it would be saved. It is on record that as many as obeyed were saved.
Likewise, God sent Jesus to die on the Cross of Calvary for our sins, He hung on a tree so that anyone that fixes his gaze on Him would be saved. The medical professionals have a snake hanging on the cross as their logo, partly to depict these truths. Are you sick, depressed, or impoverished? The promises of God for healing are still the same. The greatest sickness, depression or impoverishment is the burden of sin. Lifting this burden is the primary reason Jesus hung on the Cross. Look unto Jesus today and be saved from your burden of sin, sickness and depression.
