Text: Genesis 22:1- 8

Memory Verse: “So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him” (Genesis 22:3).

God had told Abraham that Eliezer was not his heir and that Ishmael, the son of Hagar, should be sent away with his mother. And now God demanded for the precious child of his old age, Isaac, to be sacrificed to Him. Was Isaac to be a sacrifice? This was a severe test for Abraham.

However, he did not argue with God but set out for the three days’ journey to Mount Moriah.
To prove that Abraham knew and understood the ways of God, he said to the young men that escorted Isaac and himself to “stay here with the donkey, the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you” (Genesis 22:5). He had a knife in his hand with which he was going to slay Isaac, yet he gave his servants the assurance that both Isaac and himself would return to
them at the foot of the mountain.
This is the assurance of his hope that though he was going to kill his only son, God, who had done a miracle in bringing about the birth of Isaac would yet do another miracle in bringing him back from the dead! God, however, had other plans, he substituted the child with a ram. Miracle galore! He proved that his love for God was greater than his love for Isaac.

Can we prove that our love for God overrides our love for the things we hold dear to our hearts?

Prayer Points:
1. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world; let me always be an overcomer, O Lord!
2. May I be enabled to take steps of faith as the occasion requires.
