Text:
Exodus 18:1-10
Memory Verse:
“And Jethro, Moses’ Father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses and for Israel His people ?that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt” (Exodus 18:1).
Moses had spent 40 years as a fugitive in Midian, residing with his Mfather-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian. Clearly, he had a good relationship with Jethro, who was quite understanding and
supportive (Exodus 2:18-22, 4:18). Doubtlessly, before leaving Midian back to Egypt on his God-assigned mission, Moses must have narrated his encounters with God and His promise to deliver Israel from Egypt, with a mighty hand, to Jethro.
So, the miraculous deeds God had accomplished for Israel prior to Jethro’s visit the progressive plagues on the Egyptians, the hasty departure of Israel from Egypt; Pharaoh’s ill-advised pursuit, Israel’s escape and God’s utter destruction of Pharaoh and the military might of Egypt at the Red Sea; the making of the bitter water of Marah sweet (Exodus 15:22-25); the provision of Manna in the wilderness (Exodus 16), the provision of water from the Rock and victory over the Amalekites at Rephidim – were proof of God’s faithfulness to His promise. Jethro understood this, rejoiced with Israel, blessed and offered sacrifice to God for His wonderful deeds.
The God of the Red Sea and other wonders is still the same wonder working God today as He has been through the ages. David recalled and testified to God’s wonderful deliverance from the lion and the bear and declared that He would equally give him victory over the uncircumcised Philistine, Goliath, and He did. Paul and other apostles also often recalled God’s wonderful works in
their lives. How often do you recall and testify to God’s wonderful works in your life
through your pilgrim journey?
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, thank You for being a wonder working God and for remaining faithful to Your promises.
2. I will always recall and testify to Your wonderful works in my life.
