Text: Matthew 11:25-30
Memory Verse: “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:30? ? ).
Jesus offers us a choice, a choice that is often overlooked especially when He uses the word “yoke” which automatically triggers negative connotations in our mind. The paradox is that every human is under a yoke, which is a vicious cycle of prosperity and adversity, but Jesus says to us “my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Carrying Jesus’s yoke means being called to live our lives in Him and through Him. He came to serve and give His life for others, so it is our duty to allow Him to do the same through us. The yoke of Christ means total submission to His will every day and in every way. This total submission is what enables us to learn from Christ.
Christians nowadays struggle with burdens because the total surrender they need to wear the yoke of Christ in their lives is absent. So they go about floundering and wonder why the burdens of life get heavier. Matthew 11:28
states “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” The rest is promised only under the terms of total surrender.
The choice is for the believer to make, he can both yield to the invitation of Christ and obtain rest from Christ with a lesser burden or he can continue to flounder about and watch life pass him by without progress. Jesus says take my
yoke upon you and learn from Me. This is an invitation that every believer must embrace to make progress in life.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, give me the grace to surrender totally to You.
2. Lord, give me the grace to keep learning from You.
