Matthew 13:24-30
Memory Verse:
“But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them’” (Matthew 13:29).
Time in this context isthe suitable or opportune moment or season for something. It is a period designated for a given activity or necessary to achieve success. It is an appointed or fated moment. The right thing done at the wrong time will result in catastrophe. In Matthew 13 it is recorded that after a farmer had done due diligence by planting good wheat seeds on his farm, an enemy had surreptitiously planted tares or weeds between them. His plan was that the wheat would be wasted
when an effort was made to remove the weeds. Thankfully, the farmer was wise enough to wait for the right time before uprooting the weeds.
God timed the Israelites journey through the wilderness by the movement of the pillar of cloud. The importance of timing is further illustrated in the error of Absalom in disregarding Ahithophel’s counsel. Though orchestrated by God, it allowed David to escape (2 Samuel 17:14-22).
There is a time for everything under heaven, says the Preacher in Ecclesiastes 3. A time to be born, die, plant, pluck what is planted; break down, build up; weep, laugh; keep silent, speak; love and hate. Timing is everything. Do not make war in a time of peace.
You need the word of God and the Holy Spirit’s guidance every minute to know what to do. Why are you reading this message today? Is there something in your life that God is trying to draw your attention to? Is it time to put away childish things? Are you doing the right thing at the wrong time?
Prayer Points:
1. Open my eyes to see what You are showing me, Lord.
2. Help me to depend more on You, O Lord.
