Voices That Do Not Seem To Matter

Text: Acts 27:11, 21-24

Memory Verse: “But after long abstinence from food, then Paul stood in the midst of them and said, ‘Men, you should have listened to me, and not have sailed from Crete and incurred this disaster and loss’” (Acts 27:21).

The voices around you are those of the different people with whom your paths have crossed such as your teachers and parents. You may remember with fondness words spoken by them. Some of these words helped shape your life because you adhered to them rightly or wrongly. There are also words that you recall with sadness because had you heeded them, you might have been a better person. Many times, you tend not to heed the voices around you because they do not seem to matter. We noticed, for instance, the voice of Paul in the scheme of things on the voyage to Rome. He was a ‘radical preacher’, a prisoner, a lone voice, but a child of God. One who could receive inspiration from the Almighty God through an angel and share with others!

The little slave girl in Naaman’s house was a prisoner of war! Unknown to the household, however, she knew about the power of God through Prophet Elisha in her town (2 Kings 5:1-8). The dying slave David and his men met as they
hurried from Ziklag in search of their missing loved ones could, at best, be a distraction that would delay their mission, yet he held the key to their search (1 Samuel 30:3, 11-16). Do not judge a book by its cover. Recognise God in whoever He brings your way, no matter who they are. God might be sending you words of wisdom through them. Watch out!

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to watch out for Your instructions each day.
2. Lord, make me a vessel through whom others are instructed by You.
