Text: Ephesians 4:1-6
Memory Verse: “I, therefore,…beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, …endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:1-3).
Jesus by His suffering and death, has set a very high standard in sacrificing for others. His example challenges you to walk worthy of your calling. This entails, among others, looking out for others and improving your relationship with them as God calls us, not only to fellowship in unity, but to find ways to stimulate one another in good works (Hebrews 10:24 & 25).
You must encourage others in their walk with God, stimulating them in humility, gentleness, patience and showing tolerance for them in love. You must refrain from criticising, gossiping, knowing that the progress of the entire body is more important than your preferences. The fragmentation of the church is a master strategy of the devil to send men to hell. Disunity in the church is one reason why many drop out of or are no longer effective in their service in church. Do not sow discord among brethren (Proverbs 6: 16-19).
Are you like the Pharisee in the temple who was not humble or gentle with the tax collector (Luke 18:11)? Do you regard others better or do you walk with a chip on your shoulder? Are you gentle with others by the power of the Holy Spirit? Are you patient, forbearing with others in kindness? Picture burning firewood and how they burn better together than individually. When isolated, the light of the wood burns out and eventually goes out. Do not be the cause of a Christian isolating himself from church. Together our light shines brighter and longer.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, forgive me for being unnecessarily critical of others.
2. Please help me to be more tolerant and show understanding of others.
