Text: Joshua 9:3-5,14&15; Proverbs 14:5-8
Memory Verse: “The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way, But the folly of fools is deceit” (Proverbs 14:8).
Wisdom is the right application of knowledge while deceit refers to practices designed to mislead; the intentional concealment of the truth. The problem of deceit is not limited to politicians. Many others swear false oaths to change their dates of birth in order to gain employment or remain in office. Unfortunately, nothing built on lies can stand the test of truth. Deceit is folly.
In Genesis 3:1-4, we see the devil’s deceit unleashed on Eve. In Genesis 27:5- 25,Jacob and his mother, Rebecca, deceitfully schemed to steal Esau’s blessings. Similarly, the Gibeonites schemed and deceived Joshua and the
Israelites. We need wisdom to overcome deceit in life. Wisdom helps us to see through deceit, marry rightly, develop profitable relationships, prosper in business, and maintain acceptable spirituality. God assured Solomon of His presence and wisdom, if he obeyed and feared Him continually. Praying, studying the Bible and other spiritual exercises amount to nothing if we do not fear God.
One evidence of wisdom is awareness. “The prudent understand where they are going, but fools deceive themselves” (Proverbs 14:8 NLT). The wise understands his strengths and weaknesses, and plans accordingly. The wise are seldom impulsive. They follow processes and consider the implications of their actions, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide them in the path of life. They are never caught unaware by the mob. Have you thought deeply about what you
are doing? Are you doing it wisely? Are you doing it the right way?
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to consider my ways in accordance with Your words. I shall not act foolishly.
2. Holy Spirit, help me to make the right decisions today.
