Text: Exodus 3:1-8
Memory Verse: “And the Lord said: ‘I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows’” (Exodus 3:7).
Freedom is the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved. For four hundred years, Israel was enslaved by Egyptian taskmasters, who oppressed them and “made their lives bitter” (Exodus 1:14 KJV). They were feeling hopeless. And you can understand their feeling of helplessness when you consider the areas in your own life where you struggle for freedom. You may probably be struggling for freedom from old habits such as anger, food, alcohol, drugs, sex, money, or abusive relationships, with a sense of powerlessness in your struggle. A repeated bid for freedom can produce increased feelings of hopelessness that leads us to give up trying altogether. Notice what the Israelites did – they cried out to God, and He responded (Exodus 3:7&8).
God sees you, hears you, and is concerned about you. He said, “I have come down to rescue them… and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land… flowing with milk and honey” (Exodus 3:8 NIV). Notice that
He came down to “bring them up.” For us, He did this by the death of the spotless Passover Lamb. Today, prayerfully prepare for your journey to freedom; not by your own futile human efforts, but by faith in the shed blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away our sins. “Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch… For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed” (1 Corinthians 5:7 NIV).
Prayer Points:
1. Father, thank You for Christ, our Passover Lamb, who has been sacrificed for my freedom.
2. Cry to God for freedom from any habits and hang ups today.
