Text: Ecclesiastes 12: 1-7, 13-14
Memory Verse: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all” (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
A life well spent” is a common phrase one hears at funeral services, and one wonders what they really mean. What really defines a good life and whose yardstick is used in measuring such? Obviously, there are varying answers to these questions, as different people have different philosophies about what a good life entails. The secular definition of a well lived life would be one of a successful career, financial stability, material possessions, good health, good relationships and so on. This definition is quite sensible, but it would be wise to know how God, the Giver of life, defines a well lived life.
Micah 6:8 laid it bare before us that God’s definition of a well lived life is one given to fairness, kindness, mercy, humility, and love. The wisest king that ever lived said, the sum total of our existence is to fear God and keep His
commandments (Ecclesiastes 12:13). A well lived life is one that exists within the confines of God’s love, and this is what translates into kindness, mercy, and love for others as well.
You only know how long you have lived on this earth, but no one can tell how much longer they would live. When the time comes to say goodbye to your earthly ties, would you be able to affirm that you have lived your life well and
affirm like Paul: “…I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”? (2 Timothy 4:7).
Prayer Points:
1. Father, help me to live my life well.
2. Teach me to number my days, so I may apply my heart unto wisdom.
