Text: Romans 12:3-10

Memory Verse: “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honour giving preference to one another” (Romans 12:10).

Division is separation by difference of opinion, feeling or disagreement. It is usually in the heart, and can be subtle or deep seated, but it will deter speedy progress in any sphere of life in which it exists. Unity does not mean that the parties see eye to eye on every issue. It requires that they be unreservedly willing to work together, deferring to each other and pulling in the same direction. Unity in a home will enable the spouses, in particular, and all members of the family, in general, to work together unreservedly. Having subscribed to an idea, they follow through with it assiduously even in wrong decisions as seen at the Tower of Babel and the story of Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1 & 2).

Do you desire to make progress as a couple or family? Be one in mind and spirit, in honour preferring one another. Being united on issues is mutually beneficial and does not take away from either party’s stature; rather, it shows maturity. More importantly, note that the Holy Spirit does not move among a divided people! The people of Jesus’ own country, including his siblings at one point did not believe in Him. They were a divided people and, therefore, did not benefit from His mighty works (Matthew 13:57&58).

Close ranks in your home. In honour, prefer your partner so you can make speedy progress. There are many benefits in agreeing (Matthew 18:19). You may be preventing God’s mighty works by being divided.

Prayer Points:
1. Thank You, Lord, for opening my eyes to this truth.
2. Please forgive me and help us to be united in my home.
