Text: John 21:2-5; 15-17
Memory Verse: “My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent” (Proverbs 1:10).
Wandering is to move idly, to deviate in conduct, belief; to go astray. It is to take one direction or another without conscious control, straying from a path. Are you prone to wandering? Do you ramble on without a definite purpose or objective; going around aimlessly. Wandering might start in the mind, thoughts, and desires, then in the eyes,
hands and feet.
A wanderer’s mind is not fixed on a single purpose and he is easily swayed in any direction, especially by friends or peer pressure (Proverbs 1:10). In following the Lord, is your mind made up? Do you truly believe that Jesus is the only way? If you sometimes doubt that, you need help. Do you have regrets concerning things you felt led to give up for the sake of your faith in Christ? It took Elijah challenging the Israelites to bring them back from Baal to serve the living God (1 Kings 18:21). He charged them to stop wandering saying, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” Peter and six of the Lord’s disciples also wandered soon after the Lord was taken from them. They appeared disillusioned and were losing focus until the Lord steered them back.
You need to keep your eyes on the Lord and not allow yourself to be distracted (Psalm119:37). Shun the company of old friends that distract, read your Bible, pray, make new Christian friends and join a vibrant fellowship.
Prayer Points:
1. Help me to keep my gaze focused on You, Master Jesus.
2. May I keep my feet on the right path, O Lord.
