Text: 2 Chronicles 25:17-22

Memory Verse: “Indeed you say that you have defeated the Edomites, and your heart is lifted up to boast. Stay at home now; why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall—you and Judah with you?” (2 Chronicles 25:19).

Pride, vanity and materialism have taken over the world. They say, “if you have it, flaunt it”, meaning: when you are specially endowed physically, you flaunt it. Men contend that no one will blow your trumpet for you, if you do not blow it yourself. God hates a proud look (Proverbs 6:16&17). Pride manifests itself in almost every action taken by man, except when the Spirit of God is in control. Pride is the force behind every sin and unrighteousness. It is a very strong instrument in the hand of the devil to kill, steal and destroy. A man that tells lies does so to cover his wrong doing because of his ego. A man that steals or commits adultery does it to satisfy his lust.

Pride has always been a major factor behind a great number of downfalls: Lucifer, Nebuchadnezzar, Pharaoh, kings Herod and Rehoboam. Eve fell for the deceit of the devil because she wanted to be like God. The devil is still
using the same old trick to make men fall today. Beware of pride, it destroys. It is only a man that is under the control of the Spirit of God that will not fall victim. God commands that one should not think of himself more highly than he ought to, but to think soberly (Romans 12:3). Except one takes care, anyone can fall. Therefore, it is very
important that “he that thinks he stands should take heed lest he falls” (1 Corinthians 10:12).

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, cause every root of pride in me to die.
2. Lord, help me to see myself in the light of Your holiness.
