Text: 1 Samuel 10:19-27; Proverbs 25:28
Memory Verse: “Whoever has no rule over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls” (Proverbs 25:28).
It is said that you cannot stop a bird from flying over your head, but you can prevent it from building a nest there. In essence, you can control your Iatmosphere! There are things outside your control, but there are many within it. You can and must control distractions. The Israelites rejected the idea of having God as their King. They desired one
they could see. “…Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations…that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles” (1 Samuel 8:5,20b). Instructed by
God, Samuel anointed Saul as the first king of Israel. In spite of the joy of the occasion, some people despised the new king and did not bring him presents.
This was a distraction. Distractions ental or emotional disturbance, agitation or confusion. They are minor incidents that try to take away from the major events. Saul wisely held his peace and concentrated on the task at hand.
Do you allow the minor things, comments or behaviours of people to affect and distract you? David did not allow the hurtful utterances of his soldiers in 1 Samuel 30 or the ravings of Shimei in 2 Samuel 16 to distract him. You can control your reactions to things. Do not be distracted.
Prayer Points:
1. Help me, O Lord, to recognise and ignore distractions.
2. Vindicate me by blessing me, O Lord.
