Text:
Genesis 3:1-10
Memory Verse:
“And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden” (Genesis 3:8).
Communion is a joining together of minds or spirits. It signifies intimacy between two or more people who are united in purpose and understanding. This was the kind of relationship Adam and Eve had with God in the Garden of Eden when, as can be implied from Genesis 3:9, God
would come and commune with them in the cool of the day. This communion was shattered when Adam and Eve succumbed to Satan’s deception and outrightly disobeyed God by eating the fruit of the only tree in the garden that God had specifically instructed them not to eat. It was a
disobedience that robbed them of the most valuable thing they had – their communion with God and the accompanying ease of life, beauty and serenity of the garden. It also earned them a lifetime of hardship, pain, sorrow, lack of harmony, buck passing, and subjection to physical death (Genesis 3:22-24).
David knew the agony of loss of communion with God when he sinned and, so, he did everything to re-establish that communion through genuine repentance. Part of his plea is seen in Psalm 51:11,“Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.” In essence, “do not let me lose my communion with You.” The primary goal of Satan’s temptations and attacks against believers is to rob them of their communion with God and, ultimately, destroy them. His life’s mission is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). You must not allow him to succeed in your life. So, guard your communion with God jealously.
Prayer Points:
1. I refuse to let Satan rob me of my communion with God.
2. Lord, give me the strength to resist Satan’s attempt to rob me of my communion with You.
