Cultivate the Habit of Building Altars

Text: Genesis 8:13-22
Memory Verse: “Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar” (Genesis 8:20).

For a full year, Noah, his family, and two of every kind of animal were confined in the ark while the great flood wiped from the face of the earth every living creature God had made. When Noah finally opened the door to dry ground, the first thing he did was not to have a big party, but to build an altar to thank God for sparing their lives. When God heard Noah giving Him praise, He promised He would never flood
the earth again. May God help us to be like Noah. When we see His favour, when He gives us the victory, brings us through tough times, brings restorations, opens doors, protects us, brings promotions and gives us opportunities, may the first thing we do be to build an altar as we recognise His goodness and mercy.

After Noah built the altar and sacrificed a burnt offering to God, “… the LORD smelled a soothing aroma. Then the LORD said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake… nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done. While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease” (Genesis 8:21 & 22).

When you build that altar of thankfulness and praise, God will say that you never have to go through that again. He will put an end to what has hindered you. So, get in the habit of building altars.

Prayer Points:
1. Father, thank You for the victories You have helped me win.
2. Father, help me to always build altars in remembrance of Your goodness to me.
