Do Not Run Ahead of God

Text: John 6:1-7
Memory Verse: “Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, ‘Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?’ But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would
do” (John 6:6).

Moses, though a Hebrew privileged to live in Pharaoh’s palace, could feel his people’s pain and felt the need to defend them. His action in killing an Egyptian, in defense of a fellow Hebrew, made him persona non grata in Egypt. Years before, his progenitor, Levi, and his brother,
Simeon, had also tried to defend their sister Dinah’s rape by Shechem (Genesis 34). These were human efforts and they failed.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, like many women, was also trying to solve problems and help out. When she noticed that they were running out of wine at the wedding in Cana of Galilee, she asked Jesus to intervene. He politely told her not to run ahead of Him (John 2:1-11).
God, a thinker and doer, anticipates issues and solutions way in advance. After creating Adam, He thought, “It is not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18-23). After Elijah’s declaration of drought and famine over Israel, it was God who figured out how Elijah would survive the famine. He provided alternatives at each stage, first the brooks and the ravens, then the widow of Zarephath. Jesus started thinking of what the multitude would eat when He saw them coming towards Him. His question to Philip was to test him. He already knew what He would do.
Do not overthink your problem. God has you covered. Leave it in His able hands and He will show you how to solve it.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, please forgive me for the times I have taken matters into my hands,
forgetting that You have a plan.
2. Lord, like You confided in Moses, please show me Your ways.
