2 Kings 6:25-27
Memory Verse:
“And he said, ‘If the LORD does not help you, where can I find help for you?’” (2 Kings 6:27a).
Famine can be experienced for reasons such as bad economic policies, covenant breaking, wanton shedding of human blood, enemies’ siege, idolatry etc. Biblical records show, however, that no famine has taken God unawares. God has a survival plan for every famine (1 Kings 17:4-6, 9). There was a great famine in Samaria as a result of the siege laid by Israel’s enemy, Syria. The land was so ravaged that the people were confronted with scarcity of goods and the prices of foodstuffs and other items sky-rocketed. It was so bad that women began to feed on the flesh of their children to survive. Israel’s king abandoned his responsibility of looking for a solution to counter the enemy’s siege and chose to accuse Elisha of not doing enough to appease God.
The Almighty God, ever faithful and jealous for His people, pronounced through prophet Elisha that “Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria” (2 Kings 7:1). The king’s officer, however, countered this word with his “informed-opinion”, questioning God’s ability to bring His word to pass within 24 hours. Do you also question God’s ability?
God is the solution to famine. Trust in Him is the exit route out of it. So, do not lose hope, all you need to do is trust Him and you will see your famine replaced with His abundance (Jeremiah 17:7&8). Keep your faith intact and meditate on His promises, day and night.
Prayer Points:
1. O Lord, my Father; show me the way out of my present famine situation.
2. By Your power, Lord, put an end to all the siege confronting my family
