Text: Exodus 14:10-16
Memory Verse: “And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Standstill, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever”(Exodus 14:13).
The children of Israel had been in captivity in Egypt for over 400 years. When they cried to God for intervention, He sent Moses, assisted by Aaron, to deliver them. Although the Israelites were suffering in Egypt all those years, for the fear of the unknown, they preferred to remain there. On
release from captivity, as they journeyed to the Promised land, they sighted the Red Sea. Still wondering how they would cross the sea, looking behind they saw the Egyptian army pursuing after them. They became overwhelmed with fear. But Moses encouraged them to “fear not.”
Fear is an anxious feeling or an unpleasant emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger. Fear is not of God, but from Satan. 2 Timothy 1:7 (AMP) says “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a
spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.”
Many things such as the threat of harm – physical, emotional or psychological -trigger fear. People experience fear when they fail to understand God’s purpose for their life (Jeremiah 29:11), shift their focus from Christ (Matthew 14:25-31), fail to put their trust in God, are ignorant of their authority as believers, or have the mindset that their security is in a particular thing or place.
Realise that your security and safety can only be found in Jesus Christ.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, thank You for Your plans and purpose for my life that will come to pass.
2. Lord Jesus, help me not to lose focus on You.
