Text:
Deuteronomy 20:1-4

Memory Verse:
“When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt” (Deuteronomy 20:1).

In furtherance of God’s preparation of and instructions about on their terms of engagement in the soon to be occupied Promised Land, especially regarding the imminent battles they were to face, God assured the Israelites of His presence and control of the battles. He called to their remembrance His prior deliverance from Egyptian captivity, a feat that involved many mighty miraculous works. Consequently, they were not to fear, knowing that He was in control.
Also, through the turbulent and perilous times the early disciples experienced, they had the assurance of God’s presence and admonition not to fear (Hebrews 13:5&6). While Paul ministered at Corinth, amidst strong opposition, the Lord said to him in a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you…” (Acts 18:9&10). God’s presence and
miraculous power delivered Peter from prison and Herod’s intended death for him.
Like the disciples, we are faced daily with various battles in our pilgrim journey. Like them, we too have the assurance of God’s abiding presence, control over these battles and admonition to not fear (Isaiah 41:10). No matter how strongly the enemy rages, we must never doubt God’s presence with us and the fact that the battle is His. As the LORD of hosts, He will fight for us in every
situation. So, be assured that the Lord, Jehovah Nissi, goes before you, fights your battles
and will give you peace. You need only trust Him, be still and fear not.

Prayer Points:
1. Thank You, Lord, for Your abiding presence with me.
2. No matter what comes my way, I will not fear, for the Lord fights for me.
