Text: 1 Samuel 2:1-8

Memory Verse: “The LORD makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up” (1 Samuel 2:7).

God can promote or demote. He can make a nobody become a celebrity within a short space of time. In other words, he can cause one to move from Grass to Grace and vice-versa. God made Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, a world power in his days. However, due to his pride, God debased him and made him eat grass like an animal for 7 years (Daniel 4:28-33).

Amongst the people God uplifted were Hannah, the mother of Samuel, and Peter, the fisherman. Hannah, who was barren for some years and ridiculed by Peninnah because she did not have any child, was eventually blessed by God with seven children out of which she gave one, the firstborn, Samuel, to the Lord. Peter, the fisherman, was also uplifted by God (John 21:15-17).

A few lessons from the life of Peter:
a) He made his boat available to Jesus and was compensated with a net breaking fish catching miracle.
b) He made a costly mistake by denying Jesus three times, yet he was forgiven and restored.
c) He was an ordinary local fisherman and eventually became a world renowned evangelist. He did great exploits for the Master.
d) He finished well and strong. It is clear that it is God that brings one low and uplifts another. Look up to Him, call upon Him and He will change your situation, irrespective of the challenges you are going through. Only believe and let God be at the centre of your life.

Prayer Points:
1. The Unchanging Changer, please touch me and change my situation for the better.
2. Father, wherever my helpers are, please command them to help me.
