God Does Not Cast Off His People 1

Text: Judges 6:1-4;7-12.

Memory Verse: “And the angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him ‘The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valour’” (Judges 6:12).

The generation which rose up after the death of Joshua did not know the TLord. God ruled them through the judges who came to their rescue after He had allowed their enemies to punish them, yet God did not cast them off.
Today, we see an example of how God decided to save them from the hands of the Midianites by raising up Gideon. Nehemiah 9:31 says “Nevertheless in your great mercy you did not utterly consume them nor forsake them…” God’s love for His people is seen in the way He dealt with the children of Israel.

When God gave them the law through Moses, they promised that they would keep all His commandments. Exodus 19:8 says, “Then all the people answered together and said ‘All that the Lord has spoken we will do.’ So Moses brought the word of the people to the Lord”. However, these same people made idols of gold which they worshipped when they felt that Moses had overstayed on the mountain.
In Numbers 13, Moses sent leaders of the people to spy out the land which God had promised to give them for an inheritance. They despised the land and the spies discouraged the people – they spent 40 years wandering in the wilderness.

Still God took them to the Promised Land; He did not cast them off forever and Joshua, eventually, distributed the land to them. If God did not cast them off, He will not cast you off.

Prayer Points:
1. Help me, O Lord, to believe that You have been faithful through the ages and that You will keep me in Your love.
2. Let me have the assurance that You will never cast me off.
