Proverbs 30:11-14

Memory Verse:
“There is a generation that curses its father, And does not bless its mother” (Proverbs 30:11).

I grew up in a small village in the 60s when virtues were valued and vices condemned and punished. It was the duty of everyone to keep and safeguard societal values. Suddenly things began to deteriorate; decay set in. Values and virtues were disregarded and we have found ourselves in a
situation where sin is being glorified and godliness is regarded as stupidity in many quarters.
One of the most terrible vices in this present age is the disrespect for parents. Many children live to please themselves and do what they feel is right in their own eyes (Judges 2:10). They disobey their parent’s instructions and neglect parental guidance and advice. They are disobedient and unruly. You see children dressed practically naked walking the streets and you ask yourself whether they have parents or if they are under anybody’s care or control. Is it possible that these ones refused instruction or what values are we teaching our children?
Many give various reasons for dishonouring their parents. To some, the parents are unspiritual, “old school” and unfashionable. Many reject their parents advice because the parents are poor, uneducated or in poor health. They thrive on excuses and forget that honouring parents is a commandment with a promise.
Do you honour your Creator? Do you recognise Him as “Father”? Are you not breaking His heart by dishonouring your parents, by your immoral dressing, your companions who engage in robbery, drug addictions, and so many other vices too terrible to mention? Remember, “People who obey the law are wise;” (Proverbs 28:7).

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to obey You in all things.
2. Lord, heal my wounded heart and give me grace to honour my parents.
