Jude 3-7,20&21
Memory Verse:
“But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe” (Jude 5).
It is so easy to forget things, especially after a long time, when things or situations have changed. Quite often there is a need to jog one’s memory. A rich person, who was once poor, sometimes forgets his past and behaves as if he had never been poor. In some cases such a person is unable to relate to or empathise with a poor person. Jude felt the need to remind his audience to contend for their faith because certain men, whose intentions were to derail them, had crept in unnoticed
among them. These, he said, were men who long before had been marked out for condemnation, ungodly men, who had turned the grace of God into an obscene, indecent way of life and denied the Lord Jesus Christ. They had become sexually immoral and permissive, believing that God was
compassionate.
How mistaken people are! To think that a loving and compassionate God would not punish people for their sin is very presumptuous. James took them down memory lane (Jude 5). God in fulfilling His covenant with and promise to Abraham, got his descendants out of bondage in Egypt. Yet, of the 600,000 men who left Egypt, only two made it to the promised land. The rest perished
because of their sin, unbelief and disobedience. God did not hesitate to mete out judgement on the unrepentant and execute another plan in fulfilment of His promise to Abraham.
Is there anything you need to remember in your life’s journey with the Master? As Creator, God can do and undo! Keep your side of the bargain.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, may I not be presumptuous in my walk with You.
2. May I never forget that You demand holiness; please help me live right.
