Text:
Exodus 20:1-5
Memory Verse:
“You shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus.20:3).
God expressly said in His word that He cannot be replaced with any Gother images, possessions or personalities. Such images, possessions, personalities, among others, often become idolised by man and constitute his god. Thus, out of pride, man tends to glory in his achievements in life, forgetting his Creator, who made all things for His own pleasure and glory.
In Exodus 20:1-5, God expressly told the Israelites through Moses that:
1. He is the Lord God who brought them out of the land of Egypt.
2. They shall serve no other gods beside Him.
3. They shall not make for themselves a carved image.
God also declared in Isaiah 45:18 that there is no other God, except Him. Yet man, in his craving for solutions to his problems, self gratification, self desire and lust had incurred the terrible wrath of God. Israel, a nation with God’s covenant and signature upon its existence had wandered away from God, and sought for a human being as its king.
King Ahaziah experienced God’s anger when he sought counsel from Baalzebub, the god of Ekron rather than from God and died of his injury on his bed. Solomon, who had started very well, toeing the path of his father David, got lost because he replaced God with foreign women and lusted after their idols. Replacing God with anything has grave consequences (1 Kings 9:6-8). What has taken over the place of God, your Creator and Saviour in your life? Money, position, idols, power, mention it. It is time to have a rethink.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, give me a heart to know You better each step of my life.
2. I relinquish everything occupying the position of God in my life.
