Text: Matthew 11:16-19, Galatians 6:9&10
Memory Verse: “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9).
We live in a world that is difficult to please; a world that is quick to find fault even with people with the best intentions and actions (Matthew 11:16-19). This can discourage even the strongest individuals from doing good or fulfilling their God-given purposes. For
Christians, this world can feel particularly hostile.
John the Baptist, in his role as the forerunner of Christ, was, on the one hand, accused of being demon-possessed simply because he remained focused on his divine assignment, choosing not to eat and drink with the people. Jesus, on the other hand, was criticised for eating and drinking with others, labelled as a glutton, a winebibber, and a friend of sinners. Despite these accusations, neither John nor Jesus allowed public opinion to distract them from their mission. They did not grow weary in doing good.
John’s steadfastness led to the repentance of many who heard his message (Matthew 3:2-8). Jesus’ unwavering commitment resulted in the salvation of mankind, through His atoning sacrifice on the cross. The lesson for us today is clear: do not allow criticism or condemnation from the world to deter you from doing God’s will.
Are you facing discouragement in your service to God? Recognise that the devil often uses criticism to weaken your resolve. So, do not give in. Rather, stay focused. No matter the opposition, keep doing what God has called you to do. Your faithfulness will be justified by God, and your obedience will bear fruit.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, give me grace to remain focused on You.
2. I come against every form of discouragement in fulfilling God’s purpose for my life.
