Kibroth-Hattaavah: Grave Of Lust

Text:
Numbers 11:4-6, 18-20&33-35

Memory Verse:
“And he called the name of that place KIBROTHHATTAAVAH; because there they buried the people that lusted” (Numbers 11:34).

Human memory is rather short and humans suffer memory loss, especially when they are going through difficult times. This can be made worse, if you allow people who have a negative perspective into your life, home, marriage or career. They will influence how far you will go
in your sojourn as a pilgrim on earth.

One of the issues that brought trouble to the children of Israel on their way into the Promised Land was the group of people called “The mixed multitude.” They were trouble makers that always stirred the Israelites against God. Lust as used in this context is an intense longing; in this case, for meat! In Numbers 11:5, the children of Israel lusted after the fish, the cucumber, the melons, the leeks, the onion and the garlic. They lusted after these and were ungrateful for the manna God provided. All they lusted after were what they ate in Egypt while they were in the land of slavery.

In Numbers 11:18, the Lord came in His sore displeasure and said they would eat flesh. In fact, He would supply flesh for a whole month and He used the wind to bring quails in abundance. But while they were eating, His wrath descended and they choked on the meat, resulting in a terrible plague. The Lord is more than enough to meet us at our points of need. He despises ungrateful and greedy people.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord Jesus, deliver me from the stronghold of lust.
2. Lord Jesus, I receive grace to walk in the consciousness that You are the greatest provider.
