Text: Revelation 2:12-17
Memory Verse: “But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality” (Revelation 2:14).

Balaam was a diviner, a sorcerer, a man summoned to place curses on others. At King Balak’s request, Balaam traveled nearly 400 miles to curse Israel. Though he was not one of God’s chosen people, he acknowledged that the Lord was indeed powerful.

What lessons can we learn from Balaam’s life?
1. He profited from divination: Balaam pursued material gain from activities that displeased God. Do not seek rewards from things that go against God’s will.
2. He had a weak conviction: This remains a tool the devil uses to enslave believers. Many people know God’s will, but compromise their convictions to conform, socialise, or fit in with societal norms.

3. Motives matter as much as actions: Balaam’s outward actions seemed obedient, but his intentions were corrupt. Are your motives pure?
4. Your heart follows your treasure: Balaam’s heart was in the reward he was offered. Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21). What do you treasure?
5. Self-will is dangerous: Balaam insisted on his own way, stepping outside God’s grace. Self-will is an enemy of grace, leading people into sin (Titus 2:11&12).

Do you have boundaries in your life? Do you exercise self-control over your words, actions, and thoughts? Are you able to stay away from the lures of money, juicy offers and wealth? Can you obey God, even if it hurts or not as rewarding? If you follow Balaam’s path, you will end as he did!

Prayer Points:
1. Father, give me a strong and bold conviction .
2. Lord, let Your grace lead me always in all my ways.
