Text: 1 Kings 12:1-8
Memory Verse: “But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him” (1 Kings 12:8).
Some people fail in life simply because they lack the right counsel. Proverbs 11:14 teaches that safety lies in receiving multitude of counsel, but the key is ensuring the counsel is correct. King Rehoboam sought multitudes of counsel, but chose the wrong one which ultimately ruined him. Why do some people think they know it all, though God never created anyone with all wisdom and resources? Even in distributing spiritual gifts, He gives different gifts to different people; some to be teachers, others apostles, and administrators so that everyone can benefit from others.
Many fail to seek counsel due to pride, educational qualifications, wealth, or status. But no matter how knowledgeable or experienced you are, you will need counsel at some point in life. Relying solely on the internet for answers may not always provide the wisdom and discernment that godly counsel brings. Unfortunately, like Rehoboam, many young people go astray because they no longer ask questions or seek wise counsel.
Are you troubled about a situation? Do not hesitate to seek godly counsel. This does not make you weak or less of a person, rather, it adds value to your life by giving you various options to consider.
Take time today to reflect deeply and seek godly wisdom regarding your challenges. Proverbs 14:12 reminds you that a way may seem right to you, but its end might lead to destruction. Humble yourself and receive wisdom through godly counsel.

1. Holy Spirit, please deliver me from the error of wrong counsellors and counsels.
2. Pray for the spirit of humility and ask for divine direction to the right place to get correct counsel.
