Little Worth, Great Value

Text: 1 Samuel 17:41-50

Memory Verse: “And Saul said to David, ‘You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth’” (1Samuel 17:33).

The Stradivarius violin placed for auction was cheap but genuine. Even at the last sound of the bell of the auctioneer, the audience seemed uninterested in the violin, scarred from rough use. After a few minutes, an elderly poorly clothed man with unkempt hair, walked to the auctioneer, took the time-worn mahogany coloured violin, placed the instrument under his chin and began playing.

With dazzling mastery, the old experienced musician fascinated the people with beautiful music that they forgot his appearance. The time-worn, scarred and out of practice Stradivarius produced an unequalled tonal quality. We are
capable of unparalleled beauty and usefulness when placed in the Master’s hands.

Similarly, a floral Chinese antique bowl purchased for just $35 at a yard sale was in 2021 sold for more than $700,000. The piece turned out to be a rareth historically significant artefact from the 15 century. It is amazing that things of seemingly little worth can actually have great value. In Joshua 2, Rahab, a prostitute, became a great vessel when she lent herself to God’s use. David, a shepherd boy, equipped with just a sling and five pebbles, accompanied with faith, fought and defeated giant Goliath, a well kitted full armoured warrior (1 Samuel 17:50). God is not limited as to what He can use to bring about victory as long as we place our trust and faith in Him. It is not your size, but how ready you are to yield to Him for transformation into a valuable person.

Prayer Points:
1 Lord, make me a vessel unto honour, meet for Your use.
2. Lord, I give myself up for Your use.
