Text:
Jonah 3:1-10
Memory Verse: “Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, ‘Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you’” (Jonah 3:1&2).
As believers in Christ, we are called to serve. God has given each believer assignment(s) they should not fail to accomplish, be it menial or honourable. God assigns us to where He needs us most.
God has wired specific gifts or talents into you, which no one else possesses. He has created a specific niche you must fill. It doesn’t mean that you are indispensable or that He cannot use some other person, but that special position is created for you to fill. Refusal to do that which God has assigned to you will lead to failure in life, frustration and the raising of another person to replace you.
Ananias’ assignment was to meet Saul in the home of Judas, pray for him and commission him for his ministerial calling (Acts 9:17-20). Apostle Paul knew his calling (Acts 9:15). Our Lord Jesus Christ understood His ministry (John 4:34). All of these people refused to be distracted.
There are many Christians who know their calling, but refuse to stay there. Jonah was a typical example. Instead of responding to God’s call to minister in Nineveh, he headed in the opposite direction, Tarshish, purposing to labourwhere God had not sent him.
It is possible to be happy, wealthy and popular in your chosen place of assignment, but your labour will not count because that is not God’s will for you. It is not your place of primary assignment, but another man’s field. God will be pleased with you when you locate your Nineveh.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord Jesus, let me not labour where You have not sent me.
2. Lord, help me to find out where, how and when You want me to serve.
