Text: Exodus 16:1-3, 17:1-3

Memory Verse: “And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, ‘Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?’” (Exodus 17:3).

The children of Israel had just experienced a mighty deliverance from 430 years of Egyptian captivity, followed by the miraculous extermination of their captors in the Red Sea. For this they had rejoiced and sang to the Lord. Right after that, they witnessed the undrinkable bitter water of Marah miraculously turned into desirable sweet water (Exodus 15:22- 25). One would think that these events would have opened their eyes to see beyond Moses to God whose presence and mighty hand was with them. More so, when in each of these situations, Moses did nothing by his own power, but cried out to God for a solution. But it was not so.

In Exodus 16:1-3 and 17:1-3, they were at it again. For want of bread and water respectively, they began to lament, “Oh, Moses and Aaron this, Oh Moses that!” Not once did they see beyond Moses and Aaron as their leaders and
source of provision. As a believer, are you like the Israelites to your parents, siblings, uncles, aunties, bosses, friends, acquaintances, or whoever is your source of provision or help and blaming them when problems arise? Quit looking up to man. God Himself is your present help in trouble, your refuge, fortress, provider, shield, buckler, preserver, the very author and finisher of your faith (Psalm 46:1, Hebrews 12:2).

So, whenever you are in need, look beyond man whose help is vain and fails, to God, your one and only true, perfect and unfailing source and help.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, forgive me for the times I have looked to man rather than You for help or provision.
2. Lord, help me to always remember that You are my only true, perfect and unfailing source of help.
