Text: Romans 13:7-14
Memory Verse: “Love does no harm to a neighbour; therefore, love is the fulfilment of the law” (Romans 13:10).
When you hear ‘love’, what comes to your mind? Feelings? Affection? Desire? Love is one of the most abused, misunderstood and mis-represented words. A man, while lusting after a lady, will tell her “I love you!” when what he really means is “I am lusting after you.” This appeared to be the feelings of Shechem for Dinah, the daughter of Jacob
(Genesis 34:3).
God is love (1 John 4:8). So what does it mean to love? To love is to think of others as you would think of yourself. Of course, you will not want any man to elope with your wife or any woman to seduce your husband. If you will feel bad, if such happens, love will instruct you not to desire other people’s spouses. Similarly, you do not want others to steal your money or other material items. Love demands that you do not also steal other people’s items. So, having love in your heart will prevent you from doing any evil to anybody (1 John 3:18).
There is a higher love that is more than all these, however. That is the love of Jesus Christ! He left His glory in heaven to become man – just to redeem mankind by sacrificing His life as atonement for our sins. If you have given your life to Jesus, the seed of this amazing life called love is already in you. As you allow it to grow, you will naturally see yourself doing good to others.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, thank You for Your amazing love that made You die for me on the cross of Calvary.
2. O Lord God, use me to add value to people’s lives in my family, neighbourhood, church and everywhere else.
