Text: Colossians 2:6-10

Memory Verse: “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving” (Colossians 2:6-7).

Tumbleweed, a type of plant, is so susceptible to the wind. Why? Because they only put down one root, and that root is very shallow. So, when the wind blows, tumbleweeds are easily uprooted. They blow wherever the wind pushes them, without any sense of direction. Compare a tumbleweed with a tree whose root goes deep down into the soil. Even in the midst of the storm, it will stand strong.

With the rapid increase in perversion in the world today, it is sad to see some believers exhibit tumbleweed traits. They are easily carried away by every wind of doctrine. They rationalise, question, and twist what the Scripture says and before long, they are drawn away from the faith. Such Christians are not deeply rooted in the Word of God. A person rooted in the Word is likened to a house built on a rock (Matthew 7:24-25); such a person cannot be easily moved by the challenges and issues of life. Being rooted in God’s Word is synonymous with being firmly planted in God.

Through His word, God has laid down His righteous standard and expectations from man. His word is supposed to be our compass, guiding, directing, and teaching us the way to go. Like a tree, the Christian is expected to reach into the depth of God’s Word and take root in it. What sort of Christian are you, the one built on the solid rock of God’s word or sandy soil of this world?

Prayer Points:
1. Father, help me to be deeply rooted in Your Word.
2. I pray that my life would be guided by instructions from the Word of God alone.
