John 12:20-26

Memory Verse:
“He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life” (John 12:25).

The Christian journey is one that calls for continuous self examination, so that one does not miss the mark or have any regrets. Every journey is a process of moving from one point to another and starts with knowing one’s destination in order to adequately prepare for it.
Jesus sets our destination as where He and the Father are and where His Father will honour those who make it. He later mentioned that the destination is a prepared place with room for everyone who qualifies (John 14:2-4). To get there however, the traveller must give up his own desires by relinquishing his life to God. This speaks of commitment to the cause and entails taking practical steps towards it. The Christian life starts with giving up old things, letting them pass and taking on the new God-way of living (2 Corinthians 5:17). To many this might seem like losing one’s life but it is with the aim of gaining it back for eternity. Serving God means following Him with a view to gaining eternal life and the Father’s honour.
When last did you do a self examination to see how you are faring in your Christian walk with God? Are you on course following the Master? The standard to weigh yourself against is the Lord and His Word and not any man. He said you must deny yourself, take up your cross daily and follow Him (Luke 9:23). Are you doing that?
It is a self examination and must be done daily.

Prayer Points:
1. Father, I lay myself bare before You, please search me and show me the areas of my life I must work on.
2. My decision to follow You is final, please hold my hand, O Lord.
