1 Samuel 17:31-37, Acts 13:36

Memory Verse:
“For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption” (Acts 13:36).

Job 14:1 says, “Man who is born of woman is of few days…” but though each of us is destined to be here for ‘a few days’, we are still expected to serve God’s purpose for creating us. What will you be remembered for when you are gone? Our lives must serve God’s purpose. David, for instance, served his generation by the will of God before he died. He lived purposefully in ways that earned him God’s love and friendship:
1. He laid down his life for every cause he believed in. As a shepherd boy, he diligently kept the flock put in his care, preserving them with his life. Fighting a bear and a lion are no mean feat; neither was his confrontation with Goliath. David’s confidence was in God (1Samuel17:31-37). Who is
your confidence and what do you stand for?
2. He lived a life of integrity. David received Abigail’s persuasion not to attack Nabal’s family well. Also, severally, his associates encouraged him to kill different people like King Saul, Shimei, and Abner who had offended him, but he refused. When he sinned, he promptly apologised for his sin (Psalm 51). Are you sorry and do you apologise for your mistakes?
3. He served and invested in the lives of others. As a result, all the men who sought refuge with him became better and valiant (1 Samuel 21 :1; 2 Samuel 23:8).

Are you serving God’s purpose? How? What will you be remembered for?

Prayer Points:
1. Teach me to serve Your purpose, O God.
2. May Your will alone be done in my life, Lord.
