Romans 12:1-8
Memory Verse:
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2).
A dictionary definition of simplicity says “single, without ulterior motive, pure, sincere and unambiguous.” Naturally, the purpose of the spiritual discipline of simplicity is to achieve one’s spiritual purpose. It is predicated on the idea that you have a unique personal ministry to carry out; an individual mission to fulfil – that there are things for you to do, that only you can do (Acts 20:35).
The story of Wigglesworth, a man who walked with God, illustrates how simplicity is a defence against temptation. Wigglesworth was a simple man – not simple minded or simplistic. He was far from that, having a very sharp clear mind. However, he was uncomplicated. His faith was simple and strong. He considered nothing impossible because he simply believed God’s word.
He was free from distraction because he did not multiply possessions. He did not seek or need an affluent lifestyle, but lived for Jesus (2 Timothy 2:4). This was one of his strengths and a defence against every temptation. His simplicity was in his absolute obedience to God, and his lack of ambiguity. Consequently, Satan, in all his craftiness, could not take him by surprise.
It is not very clear how to describe the type of Christian faith believers of today are parading. Could it be described as a complicated life or self-centred life? The day you turn away from your original purpose into something else, your faith becomes complicated and you may fall to any temptation.
Prayer Points:
1. O Lord, help me to live a life that is acceptable to You.
2. May I never conform to worldly standards.
