Text:
John 21:1-9,12
Memory Verse:
“Jesus said to them, ‘Come and eat breakfast.’ Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, ‘Who are You?’- knowing that it was the Lord” (John 21:12).
Imagine breakfast by the sea! It was breakfast prepared by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who came in search of His disciples. They had left what He commanded them to do and went back to their former business of fishing (John 21:3). If you were in Jesus’ shoes, a master who had given an
instruction to your disciples only to come and find them doing something entirely different, what would you have done?
Jesus’ reaction was a surprise. He demonstrated the heart of a father. He did not start by insulting or rebuking them, which a lot of us would have done. Rather, He prepared food for them because He knew they must be hungry (John 21:9). Would you have done that?
Jesus, in the story of the woman who washed His feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair, also demonstrated the heart of the father. Christ did not rebuke or condemn her like the others did, but said her many sins were forgiven. The same thing recurred with the woman caught in adultery. He did not condemn her, but told her to go and sin no more (John 8:7-11). Jesus was
compassionate and had a father’s heart. Many fathers, leaders and spiritual fathers have lost those under them to the devil for lack of love and the heart of a father. Some fathers-in-the-lord have
even cursed their spiritual sons because they erred in one way or the other. You need to be compassionate and cultivate a true father’s heart.
Prayer Points:
1. Cry to God today for a genuine heart of a father.
2. Pray for our parents and spiritual fathers, that God will give them the heart of a father.
