Something More Than Gold

Text: Psalm 19:7-11

Memory Verse: “More to be desired are they then gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb”(Psalm 19:10).

Gold may no longer be as well-known as it was in times past, yet it is

still important in the world economy. Gold bars are still kept in many national treasuries, as a measure of prosperity and also used for plating or outright manufacture of expensive, valuable items. We can liken the possession of gold to that of an expensive and valuable item. Yet, the word of God is much more valuable. The wise desires it far more than gold.

The world is in a rat race for possessions. Many adopt ungodly strategies in the erroneous belief that the end justifies the means. Sadly, some believers even outsmart unbelievers in the use of these ungodly strategies. How many believers in the race for the acquisition of material things are conscious of the rules set by the Master, through His word, to guide us daily in our activities and relationships? When His word guides our interactions, the result is usually more valuable than gold or any precious thing. The word points to righteous living here on earth which, in turn, guarantees a straight passage into heaven and its treasures. It is, therefore, worth all the effort to refrain from chasing the treasures of this world and rather chase the everlasting treasures in heaven (Colossians 3:16)!

Should we then stop making money? No! But let us consciously chase after that which is more precious than gold, because there is no earthly treasure that a man can give in exchange for his soul.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to redirect my focus towards You.
2. I will not substitute earthly treasures for heavenly treasures.
