Text: Exodus 14:1-4;10-14
Memory Verse: “And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Standstill, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace’” (Exodus 14:13&14).
Saul could not stand still. The Philistines were pressing hard, the people were scared and so was he. He was under pressure to do something, so he called for the offering, though Prophet Samuel had told him to wait (1 Samuel 13:5-12). Martha had an august guest, the great teacher, Jesus and He needed to be well entertained. She was too busy to sit down at the Master’s feet like her sister, Mary (Luke 10:38-42).
The pursuing of the Israelites by Pharaoh did not take God by surprise rather He seemed to have orchestrated it. He had a plan to put a permanent stop to the Egyptians hold over them and also wanted to fight for His people. He had told Moses His intentions ahead of the event. Similarly, God knows what you are going through and has a plan.
Stand still means stop all actions and efforts; wait for the next instruction; be expectant; watch out; acknowledge that you are depending on God to lead.
It is not easy to stop all personal action and do nothing in the face of challenges. Though difficult, it is not impossible once you learn to wait on God to come through. When He does, it will be worth all the wait. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” If God has said it, He will do it.
Prayer Points:
1. Teach me to wait on You, O Lord.
2. When I am afraid I will trust You, Lord.
