Text: Psalm 1:1-6
Memory Verse: ”Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:1&2).
To some people, a blessed person is someone who possesses material things in abundance, enjoys the good things of life, lives in affluence and lives a life that is devoid of suffering. Such a rich person would be among the elites who command respect, control power and resources.
Contrary to this, from God’s perspective, as stated in Psalm 1, a blessed man is one who has a relationship with Him, and delights in His word. You are blessed, if you have access to the throne of grace and enjoy a sound relationship with God. Having Jesus as Lord and Saviour is the greatest blessing anybody can have.
Material possession is not a criterion for measuring success in life. The rich man in Luke 16:19-23, who did not have a relationship with God, regretted it when he died. It is foolhardy to put your trust in material things because they can fail. They are ephemeral. The wrong notion of success has led some brethren astray and in the quest for riches, some have compromised their faith and put their hands into iniquity and sorrow.
You are rich and blessed when you have the assurance of salvation, enjoy peace of mind, have harmonious family relationships and sound health. Keep on trusting the Lord because He has promised to supply all your needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Do not fret, you are the blessed of the Lord in every way.
Prayer Points:
1. O Lord, help me to appreciate that I am blessed.
2. Heavenly Father, give me the grace to always access Your blessings.
