Text:
Proverbs 21:21, Matthew 5:6
Memory Verse:
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).
The English dictionary defines righteousness as the quality or state of being righteous; holiness; purity. Jesus Christ has already established us in His righteousness by taking our place and giving us His place with God (2 Corinthians 5:21). We should, therefore, ensure that we maintain
this position of righteousness by living for Christ. Our lives should portray the behaviour of Christ. Philippians 2:5 & 6 says, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God.” Righteousness exalts a person while sin brings reproach. Christ’s life of righteousness through humility and obedience to the Father resulted in His exaltation above all else. So, some of the gains of pursuing righteousness are:
1. Heaven, which is the destination of every child of God.
2. Honour from God and men: God will lift you up and position you in place of honour when you thirst after righteousness.
3. Satisfaction: if you hunger and thirst after righteousness, God will satisfy you. “And Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst” (John 6:35). Pursue after righteousness and His unfailing love by desiring it, pray for it, read the Bible always, study and obey His word, flee from every appearance of evil
and you shall be blessed. Remember, without holiness and righteousness no one can see God.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, give me the grace to pursue after righteousness and Your unfailing love.
2. As I hunger and thirst for You, O Lord, satisfy me.
