Text: 1 Samuel 17:34-37, 48-51

Memory Verse: “Moreover David said, the Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the paw of this Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:37).

When Israel was to be taken out of Egypt, they had no conventional weapons of warfare, having been forbidden by their masters from making or owning any. With God, the Man of war, on their side, Egypt, with all its power, was totally subdued (Exodus 15:3). The yoke of slavery of many generations was broken. The ten spies who came back to give Israel an evil report about the Promised Land apparently forgot that they could not have gotten the victories they got earlier, if the Deliverer had not been there for them. Thank God for Joshua and Caleb who reminded the people that their God, the Great Deliverer, was able to deliver the land to them as He promised.

When David was recounting his experiences with the lion and the bear to King Saul, he did not forget to emphasise the fact that it was God who delivered him from the hands of these great devourers. He also reasoned rightly that the same God was capable of delivering him from Goliath, regardless of his physical appearance. The battle is the Lord’s and He never loses any (1 Samuel 17:47, 50). God did not disappoint David; he obtained the victory through an unusual means beyond the understanding of men. David, therefore, recognised firsthand what it meant for God to be a man’s deliverer.
Like David, you, God’s child, must acknowledge His supremacy as the great rescuer over the battles of your life. He is irresistible when He moves against anyone!

Prayer Points:
1. Father, thank You for delivering me from the kingdom of darkness into Your Kingdom of light.
2. Today, I receive divine backing, protection and deliverance.
