Text: Genesis 3:1-6
Memory Verse: “Then the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil’” (Genesis 3:4 & 5).
When Satan went to Eve, through the serpent, all he tried to do was Wto twist the truth and make it sound acceptable. The greatest challenge Eve had was who to believe, Satan or God. From her statement, she knew God’s requirement (Genesis 3:2&3), yet she chose to believe Satan over and above her Maker.
That is the challenge that, unfortunately, overwhelms many believers today. Many are conversant with the true requirements of God for worship, i.e. in spirit and in truth, yet, they follow their personal desires (John 4:23). Most men know that God is a holy God and that there is punishment for every sin, the ultimate being spiritual death. Still something urges them to go on with sexual immorality, stealing, drunkenness etc. The outcomes, such as sickness, misery and, possibly, physical and spiritual death, are usually hidden from them.
The moment anyone believes the lies of the devil and begins to do his bidding, such a person takes on his image and behaviours like lying, immorality and all manners of evil deeds. That was why Jesus said that you are the servant of whosoever you surrender yourself to. Jesus told believers, in particular, that all they need to ensure life here and beyond is to believe in Him (John 11:25).
Many have discarded the word of God to their own hurt (Hosea 8:12). How much of the word of God do you have in you? Examine yourself. Whose word would you rather believe, God’s or Satan’s?
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, please help me to abide by Your word always.
2. Give me the grace, O Lord, to trust in You to the end.
