THE IMPORTANCE OF VISITING

Text: Matthew 7:1-5

Memory Verse: “And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye (Matthew 7:3).

The aroma of freshly baked bread permeated Grandma’s house as Tope Twalked in. He loved visiting Grandma. “Over here” grandma said, “I am just getting my loaves of bread out of the oven.” “See how much you have grown! And your hair, hmmm, a visit to the barber shop will certainly do you some good!” she said as she looked up at him with a smile. Every prayer and bible study time is a time of visiting with God. They should be seen as personal visitation times whether they are personal or corporate times of fellowship. They enable you to examine yourself against God’s
standards and expectations. They are not times to look at others, but rather at yourself.

It took God sending Prophet Nathan to King David for him to realise his sins; the enormity of killing Uriah in cold blood and taking his wife and his instant pronouncement of judgement on the offender in Nathan’s story showed that he was not weighing himself against the standard and moral of the story (2 Samuel 12:1-9).

As you read God’s word daily, remember that you are visiting with Him, and the Holy Spirit, the great teacher and interpreter is available to help you appropriate the words to yourself. The word is primarily for you. Remove the
log in your eyes before you start looking around at how the word affects others (Matthew 7:3). The word of God is a hammer that can rightly shapen your life (Jeremiah 23:29).

Prayer Points:
1. May I benefit from every visitation with You, O Lord.
2. Lord, let the hammer of Your word shapen my life for good.
