Text: John 1:1-5

Memory Verse: “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4).

Can you imagine a big hall in which there is thick darkness? That could be terrible. However, when light is introduced, the darkness disappears. Light is the obverse of darkness. We can see that in Jesus was life and the life was the light of men, i.e., that is life that is light, or life that carries light. In 1 John 1:5, we read that in God there is no darkness at all – (no pinch of darkness whatsoever).

Furthermore, Jesus declared in John 8:12, “…I am the light of the world; he who follows me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life”. As it pertains to the Christian, Ephesians 5:8 says, “For you were once darkness, but now youare light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” All those who do not follow Jesus are walking in darkness. The question is, “Are you light?” “Are you walking in the light?”
God is looking for the believer that does not necessarily talk, but shines. The helpful question you should ask yourself is, “Am I more eloquent in words than in deeds?” Your life should shine to dispel darkness.

When a man of God or a child of God carries light, people around him are not comfortable to do evil. His inner thoughts and desires are controlled by the Holy Spirit. If we want to live as light, we should be humble and avoid
covetousness.

Prayer Points:
1. Father, help me to cast off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light.
2. Help me Lord that I might be a shining light that impacts my community.
